Renovation Gets Started

Careful deconstruction has revealed a building in need of of so much repair that we have decided to crunch it up with a machine and start again.  We will start by pouring a new foundation and work our way skyward from there.  I'll post pictures of the demolition-by-machine as soon as we are under way.

Amethyst Farm - Attic work

Notice that the knob & tube wiring has all been replaced with Romex.  We are fabricating and installing trestles for a new storage floor with room for 18" of cellulose insulation underneath.  Air sealing of all penetrations in the ceiling below is happening as we install the platform.  The deck will be screwed down so that it can be removed in sections as needed in the future.

Amethyst Farm Job

I'm just starting a major renovation at Amethyst Farm in Amherst. The job involves two phases. In the first phase we are updating the systems in the main farmhouse including removing knob and tube wiring. Also removing suspended ceilings and replacing them with drywall. Removing wall to wall carpet and refinishing the existing floors. We will be replacing the fiberglass insulation in the attic with 18" of cellulose, and insulating the basement walls. We will be installing a new set of stairs to access the basement.

Phase two involves a total gut of the existing Ell including adding a second story.
